Redwood Canyon Golf Course, previously named Willow Park Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Castro Valley, California.
Redwood Canyon Public Golf Course first opened for play in 1966. The course was designed by Bob E. and Robert L. Baldock.
The course is located among the rolling hills of San Francisco's east bay. The San Leandro creek comes into play on almost all holes. The course is set in an area of natural beauty.
The Redwood Canyon Public Golf Course name change is the result of an agreement with the former operator, whose 50-year lease expired in November 2014.
The name, Redwood Canyon was chosen because of the course location at the southern end of Redwood Canyon, which was once home to thousands of old-growth redwood trees before they were logged in the 1800's. Large, second-growth redwoods now thrive in the northern end of the 10-mile canyon.

I thought conditions were fine. They had just aerated the greens on the back 9 so I don't know what the reference to letting it go to the dumps means. No uncleared branches. Fairways were mowed. It is a public course - not a country club so there were bald spots here and there. Lots of wild life-Deer, rabbits, even saw an eagle. Pro shop guy was fine by me. Was not too crowded on a Friday afternoon. Relatively flat so walking was not difficult. Probably not a big challenge course if you are a par- 85 golfer but I enjoyed it fine and thought everyone I met very pleasant and having a great time. Facilities and buildings are old and not fancy. They were renovating the Coffee shop.

I heard the people who own this course are losing their lease from East Bay Regional Parks. For that reason, they are letting the course go to pot in an attempt to get the golf corporations that will be bidding on it to come in with low bids, then they can bid over. Sounds like a bad business decision, but you can't argue with the fact that there is very little work done on this course in the last year. Trees are never trimmed and falling branches are all over the course...greens are mowed very infrequently and left shaggy so the wind doesn't dry them out. Areas of fairway are hard-pan while others are soaking wet due to broken pipes. Tee boxes are left unmowed for weeks. It's too bad. The course is old, interesting and deserves better care. Maybe when American Golf takes over, it will be in better shape (but then it will probably be more expensive)

Opportunity for interesting shots, but the place is sort of a dump ... but you get what you pay for.

Not bad, but too slow. Facilities are dated. Lots of hackers.

This course is hard to rate. It's very bucolic, but not in great condition. The fairways are narrow with lots of trees. It's a short course and not very busy. It's a decent course to play if you want a change, aren't looking for something special, and want a quick round that is challenging enough to practice your game.

Course is recently under new management. I see a significant improvement already. Small greens, tight, tree lined fairways, lots of wild life with dear, fox and hawks. Club house is old, with very little merchandise. Staff is friendly. The course is easy to get on as a single. It's a short course but you have to be accurate off the tee. It winds up and back two parallel canyons with steep, heavily treed sloops. There is a creek that runs through each canyon with the fairways paralleling each creek. The greens can be a bit uneven, bumpy. It's an easy course to walk. I expect the course to continue to benefit from new management.
